Input Images
The Image Synthesiser requires three input images:
- A Proton-Density (PD) image.
- A calculated T1 map image.
- A calculated T2 map image.
These image can be calculated using Jim's Image Fitter tool, for example:
- The T1 map can be calculated from a series of spin-echo images with different repetition times (TRs), and a short echo time (TE), or
- The T1 map can be calculated from a series of inversion-recovery images with different inversion times (TIs), a short TE, and a long TR.
- The T2 map can be calculated from a series of spin-echo images with different TEs, and a long TR.
- The PD map will be created as a by-product of any of the above methods for T1 or T2 calculation.
Alternatively, your MRI scanner may be able to produce these maps using special pulse sequences, such as the General Electric MAGiC sequences.
All input images must have the same dimensions: the same number of pixels in the row, column and slice dimensions. If they do not, and error message will appear in the status bar of the Image Synthesiser, and no image will be synthesised.
Load the input images into the Image Synthesiser frame. In the example below, the images are called PD.nii, T1.nii and T2.nii, respectively.

As soon as the final input image is loaded, an image will be synthesised and loaded into Jim's display using the default pulse sequence settings.
