Segment Intensities

Having defined the endo- and epicardial borders at all time points, and set up the segments, you can now perform a simple extraction of the mean segmental intensities.

Select the "Segment Intensities" tab in the Cardiac Segment toolkit:

Cardiac Segment Intensities analysis

Then press the Button to do the analysis button. This will start the extraction of the mean and standard deviation of the image signal intensities in each myocardial segment. After a few moments, you will see a pop-up graph showing the mean signal intensity in each segment through the time series, and a dialog asking whether you want to save the results of the analysis to a report:

Dialog for the Cardiac Segment Intensities analysis

You can:

  • Write to a text file report. A File chooser will appear, for you to choose a log file name. The default file extension for log files is ".log". If the chosen file already exists, an entry will be appended to the log file.
  • Write to a PDF file report. A File chooser will appear, for you to choose a PDF file name. If the chosen file already exists, an entry will be appended to the PDF file.
  • Send a PDF report to a DICOM server. The DICOM server to which it will be sent must already have been set up, and is the current server selected in the DICOM Query/Retrieve tool. See these instructions for how to set up the connection to remote DICOM servers.
  • Save PDF and Send to DICOM. Both save to disk and send to a DICOM server.

If you write a report, it will contain one table of mean intensity values and one table of the standard deviation of intensity values for each physical image slice. Each table will contain a column for each time point, and a row for each cardiac segment. The rows are labelled S1 to SN, where S1 corresponds to the first segment, and SN corresponds to the Nth segment. If you divide the segments into endo- and epicardium, the table rows will be written as S1endo to SNendo, and S1epi to SNepi.

For a text report, the table will be in the form of a comma-separated list of values.
